Lets talk More - Mental health

From the theme of Lets Talk more on my Motherwell show on This is the Cat 107.9fm, I have been astonished with the impact that the topics of made.

It made me realise mental health still needs to be spoken about not just as “mental health” but as specific topics, Self harm , Bi polar, anxiety etc. People really need to understand how different mental health diagnosis impacts on daily life.

From the success of the Maternal Mental Health conference where women shared their stories I wanted to continue with the conversations and open the topics up.

So decided to host a conference for World Mental Health Day to bring the topic alive once again.

Our aim at Motherwell over the next 12 months is to make all organisations within the local area of Crewe and Winsford mental Health aware.

We not only want people to understand what the struggles they have we want people to be able to support them and know what support is available for them.

I am hoping the conference addresses just that.

The line up is as follows:

Opening speech - myself

Panel of speakers with lived experience which included:

Helen talking about self harming

Jason talking about living with Bi Polar

Nicola taking about living with Boarder Line Personality Disorder

Blogger Kate from Alice in Worry Land will be talking about living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Mums story - a story from a mum who bravely talks about her son who took his own life and discusses the missed opportunities that people and organisations had to reach out and offer support.

Soroptimists Nantwich and District will be talking about their findings of their year focussed on mental health.

Active Cheshire will be talking about research that shows how staying active improves mental health.

Emi Howe from Bod Equality will be showing a private screening of the documentary “illusionists” which looks at the impact media has on the individuals Body Image.

Tracey Cole Commissioner for the local Clinical Commissioning Group will be taking about the local priorities around mental health.

There will also be stands and information leaflets being given out on the day by local organisations and charities.
